Water problems resolved in a crawl space that had collected almost a foot of water in Lancaster, KY
Challenge
Within the past year, a homeowner in Lancaster, Kentucky had noticed that water was seeping into the crawl space. During an especially rainy week, the homeowner had noticed 12 inches of rain had leaked into the crawlspace. The homeowner said that the crawl space is about 4 feet high, has a block foundation, but there was no sump pump installed in the crawl space. The homeowner called The Basement Doctor of Central Kentucky and met with Chris, a certified inspector, to find a solution to this problem. Chris recommended that a SmartSump Crawl Space Drainage System, CleanSpace Liner with CleanSpace Vent Covers, an EverLast Crawl Space Door, SilverGlo Crawl Space Wall Insulation and a SaniDry Sedona is installed to resolve these problems for the homeowner.
Solution
The SmartSump Crawl Space Drainage System is, of course, specially made for crawl spaces. The SmartSump is used to pump water out of the crawl space. One great feature is that it includes is the WaterWatch Alarm. The WaterWatch Alarm will sound if the water reaches the point that the pump should have turned on or if there is a power failure. This will alert the homeowner to a problem with the system that will need to be resolved before damage occurs. The SmartSump also has an Airtight Lid with an Airtight Floor Drain.
The CleanSpace Liner is used to encapsulate the crawl space. The CleanSpace Liner is a plastic liner that is similar to a pool liner and it attached to the walls and floors of the crawl space. CleanSpace provides a vapor-proof barrier between the ground and the crawl space. This keeps the moisture from seeping up from the ground and entering the crawl space area of the home. This is an important step to maintaining a healthy environment in your home. A home with too much moisture encourages mold, musty odors and can even make the home feel humid and uncomfortable. The bright-white CleanSpace liner gives the homeowner a nice clean space that they can easily access when needed and can even use the crawl space for storage. The CleanSpace Vent Covers will seal the existing vents to help provide an airtight seal and also will help to keep debris from entering the crawl space. The EverLast door will make the crawl space easier to access when needed.
The SilverGlo Crawl Space Wall Insulation will help to reduce heating and cooling costs, and also make the floors warmer in the winter.
The SaniDry Sedona is used to dry and filter the air. Keeping the humidity at an appropriate level will keep the home healthier and more comfortable. The Special Filters on the SaniDry are used to remove mold spores, dust mite droppings and other particulates from the air.
