Crawlspace Moisture Barrier Installation in Frankfort, Kentucky
Challenge
When this relatively new home was built, the builders did not foresee any of the problems this crawlspace was experiencing, (as is the case with most homes.) The moisture coming from ground water leaks and the ventilation system was causing musty smells. We decided to fix this by first waterproofing the crawlspace, and then encapsulating it.
Solution
To waterproof the crawlspace, we started by digging dirt around the perimeter of the crawl space, leaving space for the perforated drain pipes to collect the ground water. We then backfilled the pipes with nice grade gravel, acting as a natural filter for mud. We then dug a hole in the lowest part of the crawl space to place our SmartSump sump pump, which is great for crawlspaces due to its size and power. We then placed down our drainage matting all over the floor of the crawlspace, which also helps filter ground water to the pump. We then installed CleanSpace lining all over the drainage matting and up the walls. The dimples in the drainage matting not only makes space for water to flow through under the CleanSpace, it also adds softness and strength to the CleanSpace. We then added our insulation panels called SilverGlo along the walls, overlapping the CleanSpace. They're made of graphite mixed with polystyrene foam. After insulating, we then added final touches by sealing off all the existing ventilation and installing a proper discharge line.
