Helical Piers used to resolve stairstep cracks on the outside of a home in Monticello, KY.
Challenge
A house in Monticello, Kentucky, had some stairstep cracking on the outside of the home. After construction, the soil around the home can change due to freezing, thawing, torrential rains, and drought conditions. This change in the earth can cause the foundation to settle and sink further into the ground. This settlement can cause cracking on the inside and outside walls and uneven floors. To resolve this problem, a Helical Pier is used to support the foundation and can potentially lift the foundation.
Solution
How does it work? A Helical Pier is installed by mechanically screwing a steel pier into the ground until it reaches the bedrock or stable soil. Next, a Bracket is attached to the foundation footer and the pier. The Helical Pier System transfers the weight of the home from the unstable ground through the pier and to the stable soil. An attempt will be made to raise the foundation, but this is not guaranteed. The Helical Pier will permanently stabilize the home and protect it against further movement.
