Photo Album: Wall Anchors Repair in Lexington, Kentucky
This homes front basement wall was in the later stages of wall failure. In fact, our Inspector was able to fit a whole finger in-between the crack in the wall! For walls that are too far gone, we like to recommend helical tie-backs, also known as wall anchors. We often see bowed walls in homes with walkout basements, and they are usually on the opposite side of the walkout. When a home has no soil surrounding one side—such as in a walkout basement—there is no natural resistance to counteract the pressure from the heavy soil on the other side. This imbalance can lead to serious structural issues, as seen here. Either way, we screwed our tiebacks laterally into the soil into the front of the home from the basement. After we provided enough tension to ensure the wall won't move anymore, we then screwed on the anchors. Something cool about tie-backs is that they are able to be adjusted throughout time in order to reverse wall damage, and possibly even make them straight again. After the project was done, the homeowner was very relieved to know that their wall was fixed, and that their money was well spent.
Bowed Wall Repair
This wall was bellied inward before we repaired it.
Late Stage Wall Failure
This wall could fail completely if not soon accounted for.
Walkout Basement
Having a walkout basement can cause the opposite side to bend in. The walkout basement was located at the bottom of this driveway.
Problem Area
The front of the home was where we planned to drill our tie-backs out into the yard.
Installed Tie-Backs
Tie-backs reduce the tension on your walls by providing a lateral counteractive force.
Wall Anchor System
All these piers will work together to lighten the load on the wall. We then covered them up with soil after the job was complete.
Wall Anchors
Our wall anchors are minimally invasive from the inside of the home. We can adjust them over time to try and straighten the wall back out.
