A house in Lexington, Kentucky, had a wall in the basement that was bowing. The homeowner called The Basement Doctor of Central Kentucky to find a solution to this problem. After meeting with a Certified Inspector, the homeowner decided to have the PowerBrace System installed to support the walls.
A PowerBrace is a steel I-beam that is secured tightly against the wall and attached to the floor and floor joists. There is an adjustable bracket at the top that can be tightened over time. This gradual tightening over time may be able to reverse the wall failure.
This home had a sinking slab that was causing the walls to crack vertically. Luckily, we are able to fix this problem relatively easily. When we install piers, they are placed so deep down that they reach solid soil that wont ever move. This allows the piers to stay strong and stay still even after the house has been raised,
The owner of this home had a sinking crawl space that was resulting in sagging floors. In the "before" picture you can see their old jacks were not adjustable, meaning they could not change the height of the jacks to adjust for the sinking crawl space. Their old jacks were also rusting and becoming weaker. Luckily, our SmartJacks are able to be adjusted throughout time, countering the sinking crawl space effect. They are also a lot stronger and durable than the old ones, and will not rust.
This home had a foundation that was sinking into the unstable soil, causing cracks in the foundation walls, and cracks on the doors and windows inside the home. We were able to stabilize the foundation by installing helical piers from the foundational footers, all the way to the deepest and most compact parts of the soil. This home won't have to worry about foundational sinking for a long time any more.
This home in Versailles, Kentucky had a cinder block support system in their crawl space that was becoming compromised. We replaced this system with a new SmartJack system. The SmartJack is a high-capacity adjustable steel pier designed to stop settling and even potentially raise the floor back to where it was.
